In order for Notre Dame to advance its mission of social justice and align itself in solidarity with the struggle of people of color, as it did under Father Hesburgh’s leadership, the University will need to invest materially, spiritually, and pedagogically in an initiative on race designed for the twenty-first century. With a focus on research and community empowerment, the Initiative on Race and Resilience will meaningfully address systemic racism and promote the histories and cultures of communities of color.
